Ex-Jupiter Asset Management marketing chiefs create new financial services and investment industry marketing consultancy.

Tuesday 12 November 2024 – London. Marcus Bolitho and Will Gold make a bold move and announce the launch of BOLD Partners (‘BOLD’), a new specialist global marketing consultancy primarily focused on financial services and the investment industry.

At the heart of BOLD’s foundations is decades of experience of helping to position and grow financial services firms into market-leaders in their sectors. They have a proven track record of developing and leading high-performing marketing functions to support international asset management firms, integrated asset and wealth managers, multi-boutiques and retail/execution-only brokerages.

Drawing on almost half a century of combined marketing and communications experience from working together in companies including Jupiter Asset Management, Merian Global Investors (formerly Old Mutual Global Investors) and BNY Investments, as BOLD, Bolitho and Gold will focus on helping smaller companies that are seeking meaningfully to accelerate their growth, as well as assisting established financial services and investment businesses to take conscious steps to re-energise their marketing capability.

BOLD intends to be a boutique enterprise. As such, clients will continue to benefit directly from the accumulated knowledge and experience of the co-founders, who recognise the importance of ensuring that marketing efforts are fully aligned with broader business strategy. Their services include providing strategic advice, marketing organisational design and optimisation, digitisation/process automation, and marketing programme implementation, always with a clear purpose of creating value for clients. 

The consultancy’s focus will be on providing direct advice and services, becoming a seamless extension of a client’s business.

Who we are

Bold Partners was established in 2024 by Marcus Bolitho and Will Gold. We have worked together in various capacities since early 2007, and have highly complementary skill sets. We offer our clients approximately half a century of combined experience in the fields of marketing and communications.

Marcus Bolitho

Marcus is a strategic, client-aligned commercial marketing head with over 30 years’ experience. He has a strong track record in creating and growing financial services brands, including asset managers, into leading, distinctive and successful businesses within increasingly converging, regulated and sophisticated marketplaces.

Marcus has led multiple successful marketing teams in delivering standout marketing distribution programmes, re-brands, communications, marketing automation, product and proposition development. Marcus holds a BA from University College, London (UCL).

Will Gold

Will is a proven and commercially focused marketing leader and senior adviser, drawing on a financial communications career spanning nearly two decades. He has noteworthy expertise in the asset/investment management sector, backed by deep investment knowledge and 16 years’ experience in house in international asset management firms. He has a broad creative skill-set, deployed with a singular focus, namely to develop and build trusted brands, with genuine stand-out, across diverse client segments and geographies.

Prior to moving in house, Will worked as a journalist covering the asset finance sector, and as a pension and investment communication specialist at an actuarial consulting firm. Will holds an MA in Modern & Medieval Languages (French & German) from the University of Cambridge.

Experience

Our experience in the asset management sector covers businesses with vastly differing characteristics, from systemically important global financial institutions to some of the fastest-growing names in the sector.

Jupiter Asset Management

Following the acquisition of Merian by Jupiter in June 2020 we led the marketing function as global head of marketing and head of investment marketing, respectively. We spearheaded the re-positioning and revitalisation of the Jupiter brand, positioning it to build an institutional business. We restructured the team, aligning it closely with the broader distribution function and ensuring it was geared towards delivering the distribution objectives.

During our tenure, we re-built the digital platform, implementing numerous marketing automation enhancements to maximise efficiencies, while optimising the client experience and significantly improving the focus, scale and quality of the marketing programme. During a challenging period for the business, which had been suffering from sustained and significant outflows since 2018, Jupiter was able to report its first positive 12-month net flow in nearly six years, for the period to June 2023.

Merian Global Investors

Following the private equity-backed management buy-out of the single strategy business within OMGI in 2018, we led the creation of the Merian brand, successfully creating a stand-out new asset management brand to operate across all of our core markets, and one that was highly acclaimed and recognised by clients from the outset. Merian was ultimately acquired by Jupiter in 2020.

Old Mutual Global Investors – Merian Global Investors

We played a pivotal role in successfully transitioning and building a small, predominantly UK-based asset manager into a leading UK and internationally diversified business in terms of assets, geographies and client types. We created the OMGI brand, building it into one of the most recognised and favoured asset management brands in its domestic and core international markets.

We are recognised as having contributed significantly to asset growth, in the main organically, from ~£12bn to £47bn+ over the period from 2012 to 2018. During this time, we also gained valuable direct experience of other parts of the investment value chain, collaborating closely with colleagues across the broader Old Mutual Group, including the private client business (Quilter Cheviot), the platform/life company, and the UK financial adviser network (formerly Intrinsic).

BNY Mellon Asset Management

We spent a significant amount of time marketing and positioning multiple smaller but growth-orientated boutiques within BNY Mellon’s multi-boutique structure. With a focus on three core groups in the UK market, we helped the firm to become one of the most recognised and top-selling UK groups in terms of retail net sales from 2008 to 2012.
